Materials Handling - Ship Loaders

In the last 20 years, Logitech Engineering have been directly involved in the construction and commissioning of eight ship loading and unloading Jettys, including:

  1. LNG Loading (QCLNG, GLNG, APLNG and Wheatstone)
  2. Coal Loading (WICET and GPC)
  3. Iron Ore, Chromium and Manganese Loading (Port Hedland Port Authority)
  4. Bauxite unloading (QAL and Yarwun Alumina Refineries)
  5. Cotton Seed and Magnetite Loading (BHP Gladstone)
  6. Sugar and Wood Chip Loading (QSL Bundaberg)
  7. Alumina Loading (QAL)

These enormous moving structures require special design consideration for vibration, collision detection, operator controls, cables reels, speed, safety and performance.

Ship Unloaders - Reliability Engineering

Structural stress and vibration for Ship Unloaders is a critical cause of mechanical failures over time. Robust electrical systems are also critical using catenary cabling and cable support systems that withstand thousands of movements per hour.

Logitech Engineering design complex electrical systems for any application, including PLC automation, operator control stations, safety systems, AS4024 compliance, remote controls, and SCADA interface.

Operator control stations require good visibility for the operator in all light conditions. Infrared cameras mounted at stretegic locations along the boom provide visibility for the operator during day and night. Automatic collision detection and avoidance systems prevent the machine from colliding with the ships hatches and cranes.

LNG Ship Loading Arms

From 2011 to 2015, Logitech Engineering assisted John Holland to build and commission the three LNG Loading platforms on Curtis Island:

  1. QCLNG in 2012
  2. GLNG in 2013
  3. APLNG in 2014

In 2017, Logitech Engineering also assisted Downer EDI to build the electrical systems for the Wheatstone LNG Jetty in Western Australia.

These successfully executed projects are the culmination of tasks including:

  1. On-site construction supervision,
  2. Hazardous Area certification (EEHA),
  3. Ship Access Gangway,
  4. Cathodic Protection,
  5. Material Offloading Facilities (MOF),
  6. LNG and Condensate Loading Arms,
  7. Fire Protection Systems,
  8. RPEQ Signoff
